Given the vastness of the Indonesian archipelago it is hard to decide where your adventure should start. So let us suggest that you start by joining us to experience the Komodo National Park’s dramatic landscape where rugged hillsides of dry savannah and pockets of monsoon forests contrast starkly with the brilliant white sandy beaches.
These World Heritage islands are blessed with uninhabited islands, secluded beaches, crystal clear waters, and stunning coral reefs as well as being the only place in the world where there is an opportunity to observe the legendary Komodo Dragon in the wild.
A truly enlightening adventure steps back in time to a prehistoric age of wonder and beauty, which lies at the heart of the Indonesian archipelago. The islands boast some of the richest marine environments in the world with coral reefs, mangroves, sea grass beds, seamounts and semi-enclosed bays. More than 1,000 species of fish, 260 species of reef-building coral, and 70 species of sponges are found here along with dugong, sharks, manta rays and at least 14 species of whales, not to mention dolphins, and abundant sea turtles. These islands throughout the park offer stunning white beaches and calm bays perfect for snorkeling, diving, and other water sports. These secluded areas are ideal for relaxing during the day, a beach BBQ, under a star filled night sky.
Komodo National Park feels like a destination that has been forgotten by time.
You will fly direct from Bali to Labuan Bajo where you will join Bidadari for your unforgettable adventure.
Komodo: More than Dragons
This is an ideal way to see the spectacular natural wonders of this region in a relaxing and unhurried way. We will spend plenty of time with the dragons plus the opportunity to explore many islands and enjoy the spectacular scenery and sea life.
5 days/4 nights. Departure: pm from Labuhanbajo (internal flights available from Denpasar) Return: Labuhanbajo
We will meet you at the airport from your internal flight from Denpasar and transfer you to Bidadari and allow you to settle into your new home. After a safety briefing and lunch we will set off for a few hours sailing to the uninhabited island of Sabolon. The reefs are ideal for snorkling and teem with varied sea life. Enjoy the pristine beaches that you are most likely to have to yourselves. We anchor here for a restful night under the tropical stars.
A leisurely start will see us cruise to the small island of Mesa where we will visit a settlement of the Bajau, the sea Gypsies who live in houses on wooden stilts that are often underwater during the high tides. Originally from Sulawesi they were originally fully nomadic, living on their boats. Nowadays the Bajau occupy more permanent settlements. In the late afternoon we will move to our overnight anchorage in Komodo Bay.
After breakfast we go ashore on Komodo Island at the Rangers station in Loh Liang for a trek on the island that gave its name to the Park. We make the trek in the company of some experienced rangers so we can watch the dragons in their natural habitat. The ranger shows us the dens and nests of the dragons and we learn a lot about this mysterious creature. We have lunch while crossing over to nearby Padar Island to another spectacular beach location for more exceptional snorkeling. At the end of the day we move to a protected bay to spend the night at anchor.
We will visit the ranger station of Loh Buaya on Rinca Island for a second opportunity to encounter the dragons. We go trekking through the dry and rugged island of Rinca, which is well-known for its diverse wildlife. So aside from the Komodo dragons, we are likely to spot monkeys, wild buffaloes, deer and horses. From the top of the hills, the scenery is spectacular – you have to see it yourself! After this adventure and a healthy meal on the boat, we go to one of the many beautiful beaches in Komodo N.P. for snorkelling and swimming. The National Park is world-known for its teeming underwater world and colourful coral reefs. The plankton-rich seas around Komodo support amazing reefs and a range of large marine life, including whales and dolphins. After a short sail along the Northern Coast we also pay a visit to Rinca village. Finally we move to Kelor Island where in the evening our crew will prepare an evening beach barbecue and we enjoy a star studded night sky.
We sail back to Flores, if time permits we will have a swim at Bidadari Island and after lunch we then deliver you to the Labuanbajo airport for your return flight to Bali.
